Nice (mostly German) postage stamps

Why you should double check your work

This is from last year but I just came across it again. Someone at Vogue or the studio that Vogue uses to photoshop their images accidently went a little overboard airbrushing and Kate Mosses daughter lost some of her fingers.

Beyond Inspiring

This isn't graphic design or advertising related, but it's too inspiring to not share.

Hologram Tupac

Holograms may make it possible for us to see all our favorite dead musicians live. Last night "Tupac" performed at Cochella. AV Concepts the same people behind the Gorillaz Holograms created the Hologram. They says it will cost between 100,000 and 400,000 to create a Hologram. The rep for AV says, "I can't say how much that event cost, but I can say it's affordable in the sense that if we had to bring entertainers around world and create concerts across the country, we could put [artists] in every venue in the country"

Burger King Eyeshadow

Burger King Netherlands has created one of the coolest ads I’ve seen in quite a while. I love how detailed the cheeseburger-inspired eye makeup on this woman is…it’s even got sesame seeds on the bun!

Thought this was an interesting why of how graphic designers can make an impact on international politics. ( Video at link)

"On March 15th, I posted a poster on Facebook. The message was simple.
Iranians. We love you. We will never bomb your country
Within 24 hours, thousands of people shared the poster on Facebook, and I started receiving messages from Iran.
The next day, we got featured on TV and newspapers, proving that the message was traveling. Fast.
Please help us prevent this war by spreading this message. make your own posters , send this message to your friends and share it.
We are raising money in order to produce more posters and keep the movement grow."

The World's Biggest Hug

The World's Biggest Hug

When Brazilian advertising agency Monumenta was approached about doing a campaign to raise awareness for the underage victims of sexual abuse, they knew they had to think big. Real big.

They knew that their Campanha Carinho de Verdade, or True Affection Campaign, needed to be something that could connect society at large with the thousands of children and teenagers affected by sexual abuse. They found the perfect expression of this idea in a hug. The project began with engaging local artists and celebrities to share their hugs, but they wanted to make an even bigger impact.

So they looked up. Way up. Towering over Rio de Janeiro, the statue of Christ the Redeemer stands as one of the seven wonders of the modern world. The agency decided to get the figure to give the world's biggest hug.

For two days, the floodlights that illuminate the monument were turned down while a complex animation was projected upon it, creating the illusion that the statue was closing his arms in a loving embrace. It was the hug felt around the world. And thanks to a campaign that tied the hugs the statue gave with participation on social media channels and websites, Monumenta ensured that news of the campaign spread like wildfire.

By the time the campaign ran its course, the agency succeeded in raising the visibility of this important subject with a huge audience, making a major impact without spending a ton of money. And it all began with one really big idea.

Drops for Life

http://vimeo.com/23015055

Cyrus and his team at R/GA created a hugely successful campaign for Georgio Armani, called Acqua For Life, that utilized social media to provide 10 million days of clean, safe drinking water for a child. During this limited-time campaign, every time someone “liked” Acqua for Life on Facebook, Georgio Armani donated $1 to the Tap Project. UNICEF estimates $1 provides 40 days of clean water, so 250,000 “likes” — and $250,000 — translated to 10 million days of clean water. And all it took was clicking a little thumbs-up icon.

The Four Icon Challenge

Here are some neat images from Kyle Tezak’s ongoing project called The Four Icon Challenge. The “challenge” is for him to capture the essence of his favorite movies, books, etc. with only four icons. Not that I don’t like classic works of literature, but I love the icons he did for The Big Lebowski. The rug really ties the image together.

Kevin Connolly

Kevin Connolly is a photographer who was born without legs. He gets around on a skateboard and takes photos of people from his point of view, usually of people looking at him with curiosity. I found these photos really eye opening. His website is http://www.therollingexhibition.com/

Tony Orrico

I thought this was pretty cool/bizarre/impressive. Tony Orrico uses his body as a human spirograph to create mechanical looking pieces.

More about this and videos at: http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2011/04/26/tony-orrico-human-spirograph/

Branding is Everywhere

Branding has invaded all parts of our culture, even drugs. A woman named Dequincey Jynxie runs a heroin stamp archive blog. Essentially she reviews Heroin based on its branding. Dequincey Jynxie has a fine art background and worked for a time in design. Vice did an interview with her about her blog. I find it really interesting that branding has so influenced our culture that now even drug dealers have "their own brands". Her blog isn't as interesting as the actual interview.
